St. Goar

St. Goar

St. Goar, idyllically located on the left bank of the Rhine, is a true gem in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. The town enchants with its location opposite the famous Loreley rock face and is a charming stop on a convertible tour through Rhineland-Palatinate – especially along the Rhineland Sagenweg (Legends Path).

Sights in St. Goar

An undisputed highlight in St. Goar is the ruin of Rheinfels Castle, which towers high above the town. Once one of the most powerful fortresses on the Rhine, it still impressively conveys the spirit of past centuries. A guided tour through the extensive vaults and corridors offers an especially intense experience of the Middle Ages – with a magnificent panoramic view of the Rhine Valley.

On the opposite bank of the Rhine greets the sister castle Katz near St. Goarshausen. Those who take the car ferry across can enjoy the views from both shores and feel the fascination of the Loreley up close. The famous rock formation, shrouded in myths and legends, is an unforgettable sight, especially at sunset.

The charming old town of St. Goar invites visitors to linger in small cafes, wine taverns, and shops. Here, one feels the close connection to Rhine romanticism that captivated poets and artists as far back as the 19th century.
