The German Avenue Road is one of the most beautiful and longest holiday routes in Germany. With a length of around 2,900 kilometers, it connects the Baltic Sea with Lake Constance and takes you through numerous natural landscapes, historical cities, and impressive cultural treasures.

The route is a paradise for convertible drivers, as it winds through dense rows of trees that create shady tunnels in summer and offer a spectacular play of colors in autumn.

This convertible road trip combines driving pleasure with nature enjoyment and invites you to discover Germany in a particularly picturesque way with your convertible. Whether gentle hills, medieval timber-framed towns, or impressive river landscapes – there are new highlights to experience on each stage of the German Avenue Road.

A Green Band Through Germany

Stage 1: From the Baltic Sea to the Mecklenburg Lake District

The journey on the German Avenue Road begins at the Baltic Sea coast, specifically on the island of Rügen. At Cape Arkona, breathtaking views over the rugged coastal landscape await. From here, the convertible trip continues through the historic town of Putbus, also known as the "White City," with its Neoclassical buildings.

Further south, you pass the Hanseatic city of Stralsund, which offers a rewarding stop with its impressive old town and the Ozeaneum.

After Stralsund, you head inland, where the avenues lead through wide fields and gentle hills. The small town of Malchin serves as a gateway to the Mecklenburg Lake District – a region full of sparkling lakes, green forests, and idyllic villages. A detour to the Müritz National Park is highly recommended here.

Stage 2: Through Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt

Continuing south, the convertible route reaches Brandenburg, passing through towns like Neuruppin, the birthplace of Theodor Fontane. A stop in Potsdam is worthwhile to admire the magnificent Sanssouci Palace. Then it goes on to Brandenburg an der Havel, one of the oldest cities in the region with imposing brick buildings.

In Saxony-Anhalt, the timber-framed towns of Quedlinburg and Wernigerode in the Harz are special highlights. This region is characterized by fairy-tale landscapes and offers some of the most beautiful sections of the route to enjoy with the convertible.

Stage 3: Thuringian Forest and Rhön – Pure Nature

The road continues through the Thuringian Forest, past Eisenach with the world-famous Wartburg. Nature lovers will enjoy this section, as the avenues here are particularly dense, providing a unique driving experience.

Beyond Thuringia, you reach the Rhön, a low mountain landscape characterized by its gentle hills and extensive meadows. A stop in Gersfeld, the gateway to the Wasserkuppe, the highest mountain in Hesse and a popular destination for gliders, is highly recommended.

Stage 4: From the Taunus to the Wine Regions

In Hesse, the German Avenue Road leads the convertible tour through the hilly landscapes of the Taunus, passing towns like Bad Nauheim, known for its Art Nouveau buildings. Another highlight is the timber-framed town of Limburg an der Lahn, dominated by its impressive cathedral towering above the old town.

Then the route continues through the wine regions of Rhineland-Palatinate, where places like Boppard and Bad Kreuznach entice with excellent Riesling and historic old towns. This region is particularly spectacular in autumn when the vineyards are bathed in golden hues.

Stage 5: Black Forest and Lake Constance – The Crowning Finish

After crossing the Palatinate and the Hunsrück, the convertible road reaches the Black Forest, where idyllic villages like Freudenstadt and Triberg await visitors. Here, the road winds through deep green forests and offers stunning views.

Finally, the route reaches Lake Constance, where it ends in Meersburg. This stretch is one of the most beautiful, as the backdrop of vineyards, alpine views, and shimmering waters provides a perfect conclusion to the road trip.
