The Green Road Eifel-Ardennes is one of the most beautiful transnational routes in Europe for nature lovers and connoisseurs – and a real gem for an extensive convertible tour. Spanning around 300 kilometers, it connects the French town of Rethel with Sinzig in Rhineland-Palatinate, passing through four countries: France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany. Traveling in a convertible or a roadster, this route offers a diverse landscape of forests, river valleys, high plateaus, and volcanic landscapes.

The route meanders past castles, monasteries, historic old towns, and through quiet countryside, which is perfect for enjoyable convertible journeys. Sometimes you drive through dense forests, and at other times, your view opens up to wide valleys or picturesque villages. It’s a perfect tour for those who want to slow down, discover, and experience – with the wind in their face.

Route Details: Three Stages Through Four Countries

The Green Road Eifel-Ardennes is ideal for splitting into three daily stages. Each has its own character – from the historic fortified towns of France, through the gentle hills of Luxembourg, to the volcanic cones of the Eifel.

First Stage: From Rethel to Bouillon

The tour kicks off in Rethel in Champagne-Ardenne – known for its markets and location by the River Aisne. From here, the road initially leads to Sedan, where the largest castle in Europe awaits visitors. The route winds through dense forests that are typical of the French Ardennes – perfect for immersing yourself in nature in a convertible.

The highlight is undoubtedly Bouillon: a historic town on the Semois with an impressive castle complex and charming alleys. Those traveling by convertible will love this section for its quiet roads and the constant changes of light, shadow, and views.

Second Stage: From Orval to Vianden

This stage is all about Luxembourg. The first stop: Orval with its famous Trappist monastery – a place of peace and history. Next, you continue to Wiltz, a small town with a castle and a broad view over the Ösling.

Clervaux lies picturesque in the valley, framed by gentle hills – and is known for its Benedictine abbey. Even more impressive is the stage destination Vianden: a medieval fortress high above the river, narrow streets, a hint of knightly romance – ideal for a longer break. This convertible route combines idyllic villages with vibrant history and is one of the most scenic in the Greater Region.

Third Stage: From Bitburg to Sinzig

The final stage takes you through the Eifel – in all its diversity. Starting in Bitburg, known for its beer tradition, the road leads to Manderscheid, where two castle ruins dominate the Liesertal. The roads are winding, and the landscape is characterized by dense forests, volcanoes, and far-reaching vistas.

Daun lies in the midst of the volcanic Eifel and is ideal for a stop – whether to admire the maar lakes or for a coffee break with a view. The tour ultimately ends in Sinzig on the Rhine, where the medieval old town and the river provide the perfect convertible finale.

Tips for Your Convertible Tour on the Green Road

Anyone driving the Green Road in a convertible should take their time – not only for the route but also for the small discoveries along the way. It is particularly beautiful in late summer when the light is soft and the roads are less crowded.

The route is well developed, although in rural sections it is rather lightly traveled – ideal for those who want to indulge in the driving experience without interruption. Pay attention to changing speed limits in Luxembourg and Belgium, and consider splitting the tour into two to three overnight stays – perhaps in Bouillon, Vianden, or Daun. This way, each section can be experienced even more intensively.

A navigation system with offline maps is recommended, as there is not always consistent reception. And don’t forget: the best moments often arise off the beaten path – stay flexible, stop where you feel drawn, and let the wind decide.

Driving a Convertible on the Green Road Eifel-Ardennes

The Green Road is an invitation to enjoy traveling. Being on the road in a convertible or a roadster here means: nature, culture, and relaxed curves through four countries – without haste. Whether it's quiet valleys in France, castles in Luxembourg, or volcanic craters in the Eifel: this convertible tour is one of the most varied in Central Europe. Those who take it rediscover the joy of traveling – and the power of moving slowly.
