Orléans

Orléans

Orléans, located just over 120 kilometers southwest of Paris, is much more than a stopover on the way through the Loire Valley. The city, with around 115,000 inhabitants, is considered the historical heart of France and is inseparably linked to Joan of Arc. The young freedom fighter, who ended the English siege here in 1429, is still revered today – not only in statues and street names but also every year in early May at the grand "Fête de Jeanne d'Arc."

However, Orléans does not live solely on its past. The old town has been restored with great sensitivity and exudes a vibrant charm in the narrow streets between half-timbered houses and city palaces. Street cafés, small boutiques, and art galleries harmoniously blend into the historical cityscape and contribute to a relaxed yet cosmopolitan character.

Cultural Experience with Cabriolet View

Those approaching Orléans in a convertible enjoy one of the city's most beautiful aspects: the drive along the Loire. The broad river roads and elegant bridges provide an ideal introduction for a stylish discovery journey. From the car, one has a wonderful view of the green ribbon of the river winding through the valley of the kings.

Orléans is also a perfect starting point for a convertible tour to the famous Loire castles or along the Loire wine route. In the immediate vicinity lie architectural masterpieces such as Château de Chambord with its spectacular roof landscape or the romantic Château de Meung-sur-Loire. The roads there lead through small villages, avenues, and vineyards – ideal for relaxed drives with the top down and plenty of views.

Between Cathedral and Cultural Excursion

Among the must-sees in Orléans is the Cathédrale Sainte-Croix, whose impressive facade resembles that of the Parisian Notre-Dame. Inside the cathedral, stained glass windows tell the story of Joan of Arc in an impressive way.

Those who have a bit more time should also visit the Musée des Beaux-Arts, which is one of the most significant art museums outside of Paris. Here, one encounters works by Ingres, Delacroix, or Gauguin – a real insider tip for art lovers.

Orléans combines historically significant places with pleasure, driving enjoyment, and French joie de vivre – an ideal stop on any convertible tour through the Loire Valley.
