Ladenburg

Ladenburg

Ladenburg, picturesque on the banks of the Neckar River between Heidelberg and Mannheim, is one of the oldest cities in Germany. Even the Romans appreciated the strategically favorable location and established one of the earliest settlements north of the Alps here. Today, Ladenburg is a true gem for history enthusiasts, connoisseurs – and convertible lovers. This is because the city is located right on the Bertha Benz Memorial Route, which is perfect for a leisurely tour in the open air.

Historic Setting by the Neckar

The old town of Ladenburg enchants with its winding alleyways, lovingly restored half-timbered houses, and charming squares. Here, time seems to stand still. A highlight is the imposing St. Gallus Church with its Romanesque tower, which was built in the 11th century. The Gothic town hall and the city wall, with its preserved defensive towers, also tell of the city's eventful history.

A walk through the old town is just as worthwhile as a visit to the Lobdengau Museum, which allows for a deep dive into the Roman past of Ladenburg. Especially exciting are the original preserved finds from the Roman era that document the long history of settlement in the area.

Tracing Bertha Benz in a Convertible

Those who roll through Ladenburg in a convertible are not only driving through one of the beautiful small towns of the Rhine-Neckar region but also along a historic route: The Bertha Benz Memorial Route runs directly through the city. Here, Bertha Benz made a stop during her legendary journey in 1888 – and, according to tradition, refueled with ligroin (cleaning gasoline) at a pharmacy.

The route meanders through gently rolling fields, past vineyards, old villages, and technical monuments. A drive through this region is like a journey through the development of mobility – with open windows, wind in your hair, and wide views.

Additionally, Ladenburg is located directly on the German Half-Timbered Road.

History, Pleasure, and a Touch of Adventure

Ladenburg combines history with charm, pleasure with storytelling. For the joy of open driving, the town is an ideal stop on a convertible tour through Baden-Württemberg, which offers not only beautiful landscapes but also technological historical significance. The contrast of ancient walls and the feeling of freedom on the road is what makes it particularly appealing.
