Milan – a vibrant metropolis, fashion capital, and starting point for one of the most diverse convertible tours in Northern Italy. But those driving a convertible need not linger long in the city: Just a few kilometers outside, a world full of vineyards, foothills, sparkling lakes, and historical sites begins. This approximately 300-kilometer convertible tour takes you on a grand loop through Lombardy – with ideal conditions for driving pleasure, cultural stops, and Mediterranean ease.

Driving around Milan in a convertible means: Relaxed cruising on back roads, a play of light and shadow beneath plane tree avenues, winding climbs to ancient monasteries – and again and again the scent of Italy in the air. Whether you choose a roadster or a classic convertible: This route offers you genuine Dolce Vita on four wheels.

Stage 1: Milan – Lake Como – Lecco

You start in the heart of Milan and leave the city via small detours to the northeast. The traffic quickly eases, and soon you immerse yourself in green plains and elegant villa areas. After about 60 kilometers, you reach the southern shores of Lake Como – a place ideal for a stylish convertible trip.

Stop in Cernobbio or Como itself – both towns offer waterfront promenades, historic villas, and plenty of Italian flair. Continue directly along the water to the east. The road is narrow and winding – a dream for any convertible road trip. In Lecco, at the southeastern tip of the lake, it's worth taking a detour into the old town or to the waterfront with views of the Grigne mountain range.

Stage 2: Lecco – Bergamo – Franciacorta

From Lecco, you head east, past wooded hills and small villages. Your next destination: Bergamo – a city with two faces. The modern lower city buzzes with life, while the medieval upper city (Città Alta) crowns a hill and is perfect for a break with a view. Narrow streets, Venetian architecture, and Italian coffee make your convertible stop here an experience.

Then it’s southward into the wine hills of Franciacorta – one of Italy’s top sparkling wine regions. A wonderful convertible route winds through villages like Erbusco and Adro between gentle hills and vineyards. Here, there’s less traffic and more enjoyment – ideal for relaxed driving with the top down.

Stage 3: Franciacorta – Pavia – Milan

The final stretch takes you in a wide arc back toward Milan – first along small roads to Pavia. The ancient university town on the banks of the Ticino river enchants with its cathedral, bridges, cozy squares, and a relaxed atmosphere. Particularly impressive is the Certosa di Pavia, a monumental monastery with a façade more reminiscent of a cathedral – a worthwhile stop on your convertible tour.

From here, it’s a relaxed drive back to Milan. Depending on your route, you will reach the city limits again after about 300 kilometers – full of impressions, with a light breeze in your hair, and many new memories in your luggage.

Tips for your Convertible Tour around Milan

This round tour is accessible year-round, but particularly lovely in spring and autumn. During these times, temperatures are pleasant, the roads are less crowded, and the landscape presents itself in a special light. Be mindful of toll fees on certain stretches – and plan enough time for spontaneous stops: whether it’s a winery in Franciacorta, an espresso with a lake view, or a quick swim in Lake Como.

The route is also ideal for two relaxing days – with an overnight stay in a boutique hotel near Bergamo or in the hills between Iseo and Brescia. This way, a convertible route turns into a real travel experience.
